Climate activist and college student, Geneva Boyer, joins us to grace us with her poignant (and political!) poetry and share her view of what's needed next– from her generation and elsewhere– to address the climate crisis.
How can America hope to reach consensus on pressing issues of the day – like climate change – if political polarization and legislative logjams rule the day, and are getting worse? We'll tap into the wisdom of author and columnist for The Washington Post, E.J. Dionne Jr. His new book, Our Divided Political Heart: The Battle for the American Idea in an Age of Discontent, contends that consensus will be impossible if a single national trait or idea dominates the unfolding American story. Dionne reminds us that the strong role of community and greater good are fundamental to our identity and history and offers solutions.
Once again climate change is our focus but with new and compelling angles (never a shortage!).First up, Drew Grande returns to The Green Front to discuss a recent report from the NRDC about predicted U.S. deaths from climate-related heat waves. The Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign organizer offered some encouraging news; America is now getting about 38% of its energy from coal compared to around 50% only a few years ago.
The wheels are really coming off for The Heartland Institute. Brad Johnson, Campaign Manager for Forecast The Facts, is just back from the HI’s incredibly shrinking annual conference!
The Co-director of a new watch dog group,Checks and Balances, joins The Green Front to talk about what they've unearthed from ultra conservative think tanks about plans to destroy our earth! Gabe Elsner digs up more dirt on the American Tradition Institute, a new coalition aimed at discrediting climate science and viability of renewable energy sources, in order to preserve the status quo dominance of fossil fuels and erode support for President Obama.
Teen climate activist Alec Loorz of Imatter, brings us up to date on legal efforts to hold all three branches of government accountable for taking steps to reduce climate change.
